I have to say—I think that Aries and Capricorn together is one of the funniest things that can happen in the universe. I am an Aries Sun and Capricorns always crack me up.
We get along even though the rules of astrology say that signs which are squared to each other are supposed to have a lot of conflict and tension. We really do. The conflict part is also true. Both Aries and Capricorn are extremely focused on the given goal that we have at the moment. We have tunnel vision. Both of us. When we share the same goal, it’s like we are unstoppable.
And there’s a secret inside of why Aries and Capricorn tend to get along: we are both ruled by malefics. Aries is Mars. Capricorns are Saturnians.
Malefic oriented people are very hard working. We don’t lay around and indulge because we don’t see the point. We’re rough. We don’t wear that much jewelry usually unless other placements get in the way. We like to live efficiently so that life gets trimmed down in a way. And all malefic oriented people like to punish our bodies to some extent. We don’t mind pain. That’s why we work so hard.
Capricorns are people who are really afraid of other people not putting in as much effort as they do. With Aries, they don’t need to worry about this because Aries gets a lot done. We’re very active. We don’t call it discipline because we only become driven when we want to do things but we are active. I think that’s why Capricorns and Aries work well together. Capricorns work hard taking care of other people but they get tired too. When they partner with an Aries, they know that Aries will pick up the slack.
A lot of people think that Capricorns are dominant. I’ve never felt like this is true. I think that this is because Aries refuses to acknowledge authority.
The person who Aries tends to get most angry at is Capricorn. We really flare up around these goats. I, for sure, get most angry at Capricorns. But Aries' anger comes fast and leaves fast. We’re not like Capricorns who like to take stock of their emotions, assess their reasons for being angry, and make long plans to enact revenge after they realize they are right to feel angry. Aries just blows up and then gets over it. We will literally forget about it after it’s done.
What I’m trying to say is that Aries and Capricorn are often annoyed with each other. Just for little things. Capricorns think that Aries is annoying because we are pushy and we expect Capricorns to move faster than they can. Aries thinks that Capricorns are annoying because we think that they keep telling us to do things that they don’t want to do.
But does that matter? Remember, compatibility in astrology isn’t just about synastry rules about harmony or whatever. Relationships are about choosing each other and compatibility has to do with what a person wants.
People who are malefic oriented don’t like bullshit. We are most comfortable around people who we can let our inner asshole shine through a bit. Aries and Capricorn? Yeah, we’re going to be direct with each other. Honest. That’s why, in most cases, Aries and Capricorn have a subtle camaraderie.
Neither Aries nor Capricorn are put off by the people who annoy us. Neither of us actively dislike people just because they irritate us. In fact, what we dislike the most are the relationships that feel too precious and harmonious that we feel like we have to fake because fighting isn’t allowed. Those are the types of relationships that hold us back from being ourselves. Both Aries and Capricorn actually tend to like people who piss us off slightly more.
As an Aries, I don’t really mind Capricorns even though it’s a cardinal fire and earth square and we’re supposed to not get along. Capricorns get off on giving you detailed notes about what to do as though you will really do what they say but they can also take it if you tell them to fuck off.
Capricorns get annoyed with Aries because we “forgot” about something they wanted us to do but they’re not that bothered either. Why? Because Capricorns can fend for themselves. If Aries forgets, then Capricorn will just do it. They don’t really mind.
I’ll let you in on another secret. Aries and Capricorn will get along splendidly when we like ourselves. We tend to see ourselves in the other person. And when we are frustrated and irate with ourselves? We will also see ourselves in the other person.
Here’s the thing that most Aries dislike about Capricorns: we think that Capricorns tend to be hypocritical because they expend too much energy doing moral posturing. But that’s also something that Aries does. Both Aries and Capricorns like to be declarative and loud about what we think and believe. We both expend a lot of energy ensuring that we are heard and we both put a lot of moral responsibility onto our own shoulders.
The thing that Capricorns dislike the most about Aries? That Aries likes to pick fights randomly. We are not consistent about what we get worked up about. However, Capricorns also know that they have an inner Aries within. A self aware Capricorn might think something along the lines of “they’re just as crazy as me” when they run into an Aries.
For an Aries and Capricorn to get about, we have to be able to laugh at our own limitations. Aries and Capricorns don’t get along when we get too egotistical, when we get too controlling about our self image or the relationship dynamic. We gotta be able to laugh at ourselves because we are actually very similar.
“They’re the opposite of me but just like me.” That’s Aries with Capricorn and Capricorn with Aries. Capricorn is concerned about responsibility while Aries is concerned about agency. Those two things are much more alike than they appear at first. Capricorn is concerned with boundaries while Aries is concerned about identity. Again, those two things are actually the same thing. Capricorns are concerned about strategy while Aries is concerned about timing. Do you see a pattern here?
The goat and ram are similar. We are both driven, both realists, and both like to fight. We are comfortable with each other because we get to be ourselves with the other person. We are also bothered by each other because most people tend to get the most annoyed at ourselves.
