Gemini Midheaven

A good example of someone who has midheaven in the sign of Gemini, in my opinion, is Gaston Bachelard. Gaston Bachelard is crazy. He is most well known for his book Poetics of Space which is about people doing things in spaces but he also created a theory about how not-knowing transcends knowing.

Sounds about Gemini. Yup, this guy has Mercury, the ruler of his midheaven, domicile in the same sign of Gemini.

Basically, Gemini midheaven people are always thinking around the clock. They’re so crazy smart, you almost never know what they are talking about.

The midheaven is the highest point in your chart. Your midheaven is said to represent your career and the impact that you will make on your surroundings. On an experiential level, the midheaven also represents the way that you were parented and nurtured.

When you have Gemini midheaven, your early life is full of books. You might have had a parent who was a teacher. You were told to learn, that you are a talented thinker, and that your job is to continuously improve your mind so that you can use your talents for something good. Gemini midheaven are told to make themselves helpful. They are told that they are smart (and they are) and they carry the expectations that go along with the gift of early, visible intelligence with them their whole lives.

Sometimes, when you are told that you are gifted from an early age, you start to learn how to please. Kids who are told that they are exceptional rather than ordinary are under enormous pressure. They often have a lot of trouble figuring out what they actually want to try doing because they think that everyone expects everything to come easily to them.

I think that’s why Gemini midheaven will try to carve out their own little niche in response to all of that intellectual pressure. That’s why Gemini midheaven people, from Bachelard to Pier Paolo Pasolini, from Carl Jung to Allen Ginsberg will try their best to appear as though they have gone mad from genius. Gemini midheavens learn to use eccentricity to protect themselves from the pressure to compete.

Gemini midheaven people are very psychologically complex. They’re not just changing their minds but literally inverting their minds inside out.

Ginsberg spent months in a psych ward after he pleaded insanity for going under trial for his activism. Jung had his psychosis phase during which he wrote his Red Book. Pasolini was part of that whole movement post-WW2 of subverting national fascism into sexual masochism.

Since they were kids, Gemini midheaven was told to make themselves useful or helpful because they’re smart and can succeed. But Gemini midheaven rebels against the expectations that intellectuals must succeed under status quo conditions. What does Gemini midheaven strive to do instead? They strive to change the stakes of success. They are trying to change the context that they live under. Gemini midheaven is always trying to deconstruct their world so that they can make up a new reality. That’s why they often go through periods of madness, because they only half believe that they really exist and that the world is real.

Gemini has the tendency to double its own goals. Gemini midheaven people are always torn between two paths. They are torn between different versions of themselves because they actually try to accomplish two opposing goals at once. This is very important. Gemini midheaven people aren’t just trying to double task or something. They are literally trying to accomplish two opposite ideas because they believe in two opposing truths at once.

Pasolini advocated for conservative values and what he saw as sexual degeneracy. Bachelard advocated for science and fantasy. Jung advocated for the occult and western science.

This is what I mean when I sometimes say that Gemini midheaven people are too smart for their own good. These people outsmart themselves! Their minds are always playing tricks on themselves.

Sometimes, people with Gemini midheaven are vulnerable to falling prey to conspiracy theories. People who are overly intellectually critical, people who are used to being able to outthink systems, often find themselves attracted to complex theories about the mysteries that hide beneath the veneer of reality. You have to remember this: conspiracies aren’t really that hidden. You don’t need to think that hard.

Wherever you have Gemini in your chart is actually going to be a place where you experience fears around aging. That’s because Gemini is Mercury and Mercury represents youthful talents and potential. For Gemini midheaven, they grew up gifted and talented and carrying this burden of potential. They fear aging but guess what? They become so much freer when they get old.

The older you get, the less you have to worry about your potential. You get to just enjoy your brilliant mind and to learn and think about what you find curious at your own pace.

Really, when it comes down to it, Gemini midheaven people just want to learn. They see the world as a playground, one that is always teaching. They only start to think too hard and to fall into conspiracy when they think that they need to keep up the pretense of appearing smarter than everyone else. Otherwise, Gemini midheaven people just want to talk shit about wacky ideas with their friends.

They are motivated by education, by learning how to think precisely about elaborate topics. Gemini midheaven never stops learning. So, they never really grow that old.

If you have Gemini midheaven, here are a couple different career paths that might work for you: Wikipedia editor, Phd student, psychologist, poet, mad scientist, and internet troll.
