The Pisces Coworker

The thing to keep in mind about your Pisces coworker is that they don’t want to be there. Some people go to work because they have something to prove and they feel all ambitious. Pisces goes to work because they have extremely sensitive tropical fish, two picky cats, and three dogs who they must feed, house, and (sometimes) even clothe.

Doesn’t Pisces need to feed, house, and clothe themselves? Well, they do. But they haven’t admitted to that one yet. If life were up to Pisces, then they would make a million dollars on a fundraiser for their new spiritual system and never have to work ever again.

Because your Pisces coworker doesn’t really want to be at work, they actually won’t be. They might be present physically now and then but definitely not mentally. If Pisces can get away with it, they will call out. If they can’t, then they will bring a great fantasy or romance novel in their bag and spend the day squirreling away hours in the supply closet for grape eating and reading.

I find Pisces coworkers extremely chill. They’re not really paying that much attention to the details so you never have to worry too much about whether you made a work inappropriate joke or if you missed a deadline or two. That said, there will be times when your Pisces coworker is decidedly not that chill.

As the Venus and Jupiter dominant zodiac sign, Pisces actually cares a lot about how they appear. One of the reasons why Pisces does not appear where they can be seen by other people very often isn’t because they forgot to show up but because they are trying to minimize their appearances so that people don’t get sick of them. Pisces are very worried about whether people might be sick of them and they can be highly paranoid about small social errors. They might look easy breezy on the outside because they’ll never breathe down your back but, inside, they spend a lot of time ruminating over social anxiety.

That’s why there is one time when Pisces is not that chill at work—anytime public visibility is involved.

Making a presentation? Pisces is sweating. Sharing something on social media? Pisces is scrutinizing the copy. Taking pictures today? Oh, Pisces has dressed to the nines. Pisces is not worried about how you come across. They would never, ever judge another soul for something as shallow as appearance. However, that doesn’t mean that they don’t care about how they come across.

That’s why Pisces tends to do really well when they are out of the spotlight. A Pisces who works out of the spotlight is a relaxed Pisces. They use their very sensitive powers of observation to figure out what needs to happen for the whole workplace to function well without worrying about how they are going to be perceived.

Of course, the job that best suits Pisces is any job that works directly with animals. However, if no such job is available then I actually think that Pisces excels in a management role since humans are animals too and managing us requires pretty much the same skills as a zookeeper. I’ve had two wonderful Pisces managers, both of whom were extremely hands off. They never noticed or cajoled me to forgive myself when I came late or made mistakes. Pisces knows that, when you let people do what they want, they will try to do the best work that they can at their current capacity.

Pisces is not a provider or a systems improver. Neither of the Pisces managers I had were the type of people who made suggestions, pushed for new ideas, or even showed up everyday. In fact, sometimes it’s next to impossible to know what a Pisces needs from you as their coworker.

“Let’s feel it out,” Pisces coworkers are often found saying. “You tell me.” “I’ll follow your lead.” “I want you to let your creativity sing!”

In other words: I don’t give a shit. You do it. I’m just here for the check.

The memory of a goldfish—no matter what happens, Pisces has already forgotten by the time the next day rolls around.

When you work with a Pisces, you must make active demands from them or else things can get pushed under the radar. They have a tendency of letting other life demands take precedence and fading from their work life little by little unless pushed otherwise. Their fish, cats, dogs, and hamsters matter. Work frankly just doesn’t. If you are the type to love independent action, then you’ll love working alongside a Pisces. If you are the type to like constant check ins and availability, then you might struggle.

It’s hard to dislike a Pisces coworker. When they can, they will crack jokes one after the other. Yes, they sometimes drop the ball but they don’t keep score and they never put pressure on you. If you work anywhere where the details really do matter then that sucks. But if you work at an insurance company, advertising, in fashion, or anything else where productivity really isn’t that urgent? Then your Pisces coworker can teach you a thing or too about caring less and just living in the moment.
