May 2026 Horoscopes

May 1, 2026, 3:51 p.m.

May's astrology moves in phases: first, Mercury aspects Uranus and provokes us into satirizing what we have become accustomed to. Then, the Sun delivers an epiphany.

The hermetic text The Cloud of Unknowing begins by comparing a cage and a cloud:

A cage is semi-transparent. When you sit inside of a cage, you can see through the bars even if you can't physically escape them. You can clearly see what constrains you and what lays beyond those constraints. A cloud can trap you like a cage but you can't always see how it constrains you. You aren't physically trapped by a cloud, not with bars like a cage, but you can't see what lays beyond it and, because you can't see what lays beyond, you stop imagining what could be. You don't always remember that you are in a cloud or a fog. Your eyes, throat, and senses become accustomed to the smog of your times.

Sometimes a cloud feels like a cage. We mistake it for one.

Du Mu, a poet born in 803 AD, wrote about clouds. He compared the collapsing empire that he was born in, one filled with rapidly urbanized cities full of smoke produced by pollution and trade routes blurred by dust kicked up by fast moving fleets of horses, with smoke and clouds.

Because pollution blurs our vision, we don't know what we can't see. We don't know what we are ignorant of because we mistake sophistication for insight.

In May, both Mercury and the Sun will conjoin Uranus in the early degrees of Gemini. The Sun conjuncting Uranus is an epiphany. The experience isn't quite like that of breaking out of a cage but that of suddenly realizing that you are in a fog—realizing that your movements have been constrained by a lack of contemporary insight. There are no metal bars impeding you. Instead, our movements and direction have been constrained only by what we do not know. That inability to see what we cannot see masks our vision and has us accepting the future instead of imagining it.

When we realize the cloud of ignorance shrouds empire's end, we adjust our senses accordingly. We stop equating ignorance with belonging. We realize that there are things out there that we don't know.

Mercury isn't as illuminating as the Sun. However, Mercury is a boundary crosser. It's the only planet that can move into and out of the underworld unscathed. Mercury can describe the fog of mass produced culture precisely but it lacks the clarifying quality of the Sun. May's astrology moves in phases: first, Mercury aspects Uranus and provokes us into satirizing what we have become accustomed to. Then, the Sun delivers an epiphany.

I'd say that, aside from Pluto which will retrograde in May, all other planets are moving reasonable quickly. Mercury zooms through three zodiac signs, Venus is moving faster than the Sun, and Mars may be slowing down but is still pretty fast. Jupiter is speeding up and Saturn, which is always slow, is still pushed to move faster due proximity of the Sun.

This forward and reasonably fast movements of most planets tells me that when May brings us epiphanies, it does so through action. We're not sitting in one place doing nothing but thinking. We are moving forward and acting. Uranus will bring epiphanies for those who are involved and doing things because, this month, it works through action.

Mercury will transit Uranus on May 18th and the Sun on May 23rd. Keep moving, participate, and keep your mind clear. Pay attention to what's around you.

Taurus May 2026 Horoscope

In May, begin by accepting your needs without needing to justify them with generosity. Those of us who come from collective cultures have a habit of justifying our personal needs by planning out when we will give back. We tell ourselves that we only need certain things—love, food, money—because we can only give from a full cup and who wants to be a cup that can't give? But justifying your own needs with generosity puts a lot of pressure on those acts of giving which you do not because you are obligated but because you are you. When we justify our own needs using generosity, our desire to give becomes urgent instead of intuitive.

You don't have to immediately give things away just to need them. You need resources because you exist. You are here, right now, and you will give later at your own pace. You do not need to immediately know how you will give back when you ask for support.

The month of May will have you thinking about what is most valuable, important, and useful about your work. Be careful not to make these questions, which can be so helpful when defining the work that you do in the world, to be about your identity and your entire being. You can assess the function and value of the work that you are here to do without making those questions be about your right to exist as yourself. It doesn't have to be existential! You don't exist to be productive. You don't need to justify your work to just exist because, when one goal ends and before another begins, you are still here.

May will bring you some kind of epiphany about how you measure your own needs and how you value your work. This is a time of epiphany. Keep flexible around your theories of survival.

Questions for Taurus for May 2026:
What did you previously assume that you needed to do to be useful, valuable, and important?
What happens when you have expectations about your work that don't apply to your very existence?
What are the needs that your expectations about productivity helped you camouflage?

Gemini May 2026 Horoscope

Distractions! Oh, the distractions. In May, it's going to be useful to examine what escapism looks like in your everyday decision making.

Most of the time, we stay up late, take unnecessary risks, move erratically, or make decisions that we really didn't expect and don't want to have to stand by because we simply want more freedom. Staying up late can free like making more free time even though we're cutting into our time for rest. Taking unnecessary risks can feel like safety when stagnancy doesn't feel safe.

This month, take a hard and honest look at what makes you feel free and safe. As you understand your desires, you will make decisions that cultivate your freedom and safety more intentionally. Distractions aren't just random temptations. Distractions are ways that you might be seeking out something that you actually want deeply. Read them to decipher yourself.

Take this process of self inquiry seriously. Your inner rebel might surprise even you. What looks like a propensity towards risk might actually be a need for protection. What disguises itself as a desire for control could actually just be you needing more alone time. You'll know yourself best not when you make the most logical sense but surprising yourself makes you feel curious instead of anxious.

Questions for Gemini for May 2026:
How can I accept my desire for freedom more intentionally?
How can I accept my desire for safety more intentionally?
What is my inner rebel try to tell me?

Cancer May 2026 Horoscope

May is about letting yourself do things without needing to justify that action's importance ahead of time.

If you're an artist, then the thing that will trip you up is just going to be too much self awareness and seriousness. A lot of artists go around trying to self narrate every single little act of creative exploration before we actually just try it out because we feel this economic pressure to make everything meaningful, important, or good ahead of time. But guess what? Not every aspect of your creative life will go into your body of work. You also don't need to explain yourself for every single little thing because you're not going to be applying for funding for every random act of creative joy.

You can let go of that need to justify your absurdity, to explain your significance, to narrate your style. You can break your own rules or make things that don't fit with your long term projects. You can watch movies that you like or read books for fun.

Let go of the idea that you must be Important or Great or Significant to just make art. You don't. Your importance will not be earned through productive labor by found by paying attention. You will not know how to explain what you are doing in an digestable and easily consumable way before you try it. You have to be willing to risk being unproductive for at least some of your time to get perspective around your seriousness.

What if you used it?
If you don't have one, what if you made one with printer paper?

Leo May 2026 Horoscope

One of the biggest afflictions in adult friendships is the expectation that we are all going to the same place at the same pace. As a young person, our friendships are often very institutionalized because we make friends at school. This gives us the illusion that we will hit the same life milestones and walk the same path as our peers. Even as we get older, we sometimes feel unnecessarily distant from our friends when we feel like we're not moving or growing at the same pace or when we are headed to different places.

You don't have to be the same person as your friends to be friends. In fact, you never were. You can be totally different people coming from different contexts, with different goals and different expectations of life, and still be great friends. Your friends do not expect you to achieve or want to achieve the same things as they do. You do not fall behind when your friends reach a milestone and you don't move ahead when you achieve something that someone else wanted for you if you didn't want it.

Friendship is an incredibly liberating type of relationship because it doesn't expect you to be the same type of people. You don't have to walk the same path. Friendship allows for extraordinary love at extraordinary distance.

May is going to be about realizing that you don't need to have the same goals as your friends to still be friends. You don't have to compare yourself to your peers to understand them. You've always been different people and the reason why your friends love you so much isn't because you're similar to them but because you are you.

Questions for Leo for May 2026:
What is one goal that your best friend has that you don't?
What is one goal that you have that your best friend does not share with you?
What do you understand about each other's goals and what do you not?

Virgo 2026 May Horoscope

The society that you live in can feel like smog. You walk through it everyday but, because you got used to breathing it in and seeing through it, you no longer realize what filters your experience. This fog of atmospheric agreements around you, that you consent to without noticing anymore, can actually make it much harder to see what is actively changing around you.

In May, your attention gets drawn to what is systematically changing in your environment. You might notice these changes coming at your first through those agreements that you make everyday without even noticing.

What will be useful, in my opinion, when it comes to trying to see through the fog of what you've come to take for granted and what you don't register any longer will be reconnecting to your ethics about consent. Consent offers us an active and permission led way to talk about the choices that we make to form our environments. Consent isn't a rulebook that you have to write about yourself. Consent is about what you can tolerate, what you want to trust, and is a language or tool that helps you decipher and bridge the gap between yourself and the world.

As people and the planet go through immense changes, how does that change your choices? How do those changes in your choices shape your ethics around consent? What is the world that you consent to participate in and what are the many visible and secret ways that you might honor your ethics of consent?

Questions for Virgo for May 2026:
What are you learning to trust?
How's that going?
What is this process of learning to trust teaching you about your wider world?

Libra May 2026 Horoscope

A lot of us feel like we have to figure out a safe and clean story that we can tell about ourselves to explain who we are. We hope that, within this story of self consciousness, that we are the good guy and that the people around us will believe us about us being the good guy.

Some of us experience this pressure to explain ourselves as a moral pressure because we grew up religious. Some of us experience it a pursuit of belonging to a wider community, a canonical history of people moving through the world, that we fear being excluded by. Some of us feel social pressure to explain ourselves about who we are simply because self promotion and precarity is such a big part of late stage western capitalism.

You don't have to explain yourself. Your life does not fall into the predictable lines of a good story. The multiple histories of the people who impact your life in vital and necessary ways were never simple matters of cause and effect. People in history acted in unpredictable ways just like you do. These unpredictable acts produced history that way your actions will.

In May, I'd like you to find what remain most unpredictable about the story that you tell yourself about who you are. Contest your own self awareness. For, as self aware as you, there are always a good deal of things that you get wrong about yourself and discovering what you got wrong can feel as delightful as seeing yourself anew.

Questions for Libra for May 2026:
What remains most unpredictable about the story that you tell yourself about who you are?
When was the last time you let yourself feel confused?
What did this confusion help you challenge?

Scorpio May 2026 Horoscope

May promises you a startling moment that you don't need to worry about something that you've been worrying about for quite some while.

I think that a lot of parents go through this moment. They see their child everyday, anticipating needs, and then they realize that their kid is actually a lot taller and more mature than they remember them being. Certain things, which used to be the parent's responsibility, are no longer. This startling moment of realizing where your responsibilities have ended is a happy one but also a scary one. "What if I am no longer needed? Or wanted?"

I think that realizing what we don't need to take responsibility for can happen in more equal relationships like the relationship between friends or siblings or lovers. We don't always clock this desire to take care of someone else's responsibilities for them as a transgression especially when it is welcome or when someone we love has trouble articulating requests for help.

Your task in May will be to let the children around you grow at their own pace and to let the adults around you be adults. Your attachment to the people who love you is not based on what you can do for other people, how many problems you can fix, or what you can provide. As people take care of themselves, you are still needed and wanted.

Questions for Scorpio for May 2026:
What did I assume about my responsibilities?
What am I not responsible for?
Whose competency do I trust?

Sagittarius May 2026 Horoscope

In May, you're going to be having epiphanies about dynamics in your relationships that you hardest to see. This probably won't happen in your newer relationships but in ones that you've been in for at least two years. Throughout the month, try to reconnect with your teenaged self and try to discern your oldest relationship patterns. You may even see some of your old friends that you left behind in childhood come back to your life right about now.

I think that remembering your teenaged friendships is really meaningful. A lot of us feel super embarrassed by these relationships because they show us what we wanted as we were growing up and before we really knew ourselves. A lot of us dismiss the relationships that we had as teenagers after we grow out of them but, when we were in them, they felt deeply real. These relationships shaped you—they were freedom, love, drama, and fun all at once.

As you reflect on your teenaged friendships, try to remember what made you feel free back then. Back before friendship became too serious, too adult, and too weighed down by life you made friends with people because you wanted to figure out who you were as an independent identity. Before you found your adult self with your friendships, making time to hang out with your friends was an expression of rebellion.

Bring some of that energy back into your life. Hang out with your friends at night even if you have to get up early the next morning. Make time for just hanging out in random places without needing to have a goal.

Questions for Sagittarius for May 2026:
Who was your best friend when you were a teenager?
What made you feel free in that friendship?
What makes you feel free in your adult friendships?

Capricorn May 2026 Horoscope

Success isn't about scoring a title, a status, or about winning an opportunity bestowed upon you by an institution. Success is about impacting real people and the real world in a way that you feel proud of. In May, as Gemini season begins, you might contest your own assumptions about what you need to do in order to be accomplished.

As a Capricorn, you're likely to be a very long term thinker. But I want to contest that long range vision that you have going on. Sure, there's going to be a couple successes that you only know when you get to the elder years of your life. When you look back into the distant past, you're bound to find a couple things that you can feel proud of.

But success is everyday too. You have everyday successes that feel very ordinary that you might pay attention. Your everyday actions have some kind of impact on the people around you. You help people, make space, and nurture. That impact is still real even though it feels just normal.

The energy of Gemini season is mutable and flexible. I'm thinking that, when your long term plans or goals change, those changes give you some degree of relief from frameworks that have anchored you for way too long. Changing your plans does not limit your degree of accomplishment. You still impact people. You do it everyday and that's something that will never change even when your plans do.

Questions for Capricorn for May 2026:
What am I relieved about when my plans change?
What do I feel proud about today?
What helps me feel flexible about my ideas about success?

Aquarius May 2026 Horoscope

May is about knowing the difference between an obligation and a promise.

In love, we do make promises and we seek to honor those promises that we make. However, you're not 100% responsible for the feelings that other people have about you. You aren't responsible for making someone else feel secure. You can fulfill other people's expectations for you when those expectations feel right and loving but that's still something that you have to actively discern. You must take care of yourself even as you love other people.

When love is a obligation, you start to feel like you are responsible for other people's feelings about you. You apologize when people offend you because you wonder if their opinions are your fault. You become a different version of yourself when you are around every person who you have ever loved. Performing love isn't real connection—it's adaptation. Relationships where you feel like you have to explain yourself because being misunderstood or confusing is too dangerous to bear are going to be relationships that tire you out.

May is for love and choice. May is about clarifying your perspective on relationship dynamics where you feel like you have to behave in certain ways to stay in the relationship. It's about letting people be wrong about you without having to explain yourself. You don't have to be constantly accessible or digestible to be lovable.

Questions for Aquarius for May 2026:
What are promises that you have made that you choose to keep?
Have you made any promises out of obligation?
Do you deal with any expectations that you don't choose to uphold?

Pisces May 2026 Horoscope

Weirdly enough, every generation of human beings is actually very different and dealing with different social and political circumstances. That's why the ideas and assumptions that people of your parents's generation had about stability often don't ring true.

If we all lived in an unchanging world, then we would just go through the exact same shit as our parents and can heed their advice without thinking for ourselves. Their version of stability would work for us. But the world is not constant. It's being actively changed and produced by people's actions. That means that we can't simply inherit a definition of stability from our elders, who lived in a globalizing and neoliberal world. We have to adapt what they teach us as we face a more nationalistic and isolationist one.

What is the definition of stability that your parents's taught to you? What aspects of that definition have you found to be sound? What aspects of it have you found to be unreliable in your own times and circumstances?

What usually helps someone experiencing an Uranus square feel more grounded, in my experience, is remembering that you can make your life up and that it will be just as real as the values and customs that you inherit. You can make up your own vision of steadiness, groundness, and describe the principles that keep you anchored to your reality. That's stability that you make.

Questions for Pisces for May 2026:
What is your parents's version of stability?
What is different between your generation and theirs?
What is the stability that you are creating?

Aries May 2026 Horoscope

In May, you'll break the rules of your own routine. Right now, you're used to feeling like you have no time at certain moments in your day because of how you run your life. Do some examining over what you actually make time for. You might be surprised at the results of your own survey.

A lot of the time, we go through life putting the things that we actually want to make time for in the realm of the "someday." Someday is today. I'm taking about putting your clothes away, learning to drive, and getting back to your messages. I'm also talking about writing that story, starting that sewing project, and finishing that album.

Deciding that you will make time for what you've been wanting to make time for doesn't mean that you suddenly lose the life that you live now. You can keep your own pace even after you start something because starting doesn't mean that you suddenly need to move faster or differently. You don't lose yourself when you begin to fulfill a promise that you made to yourself long ago because you never needed to become another person to fulfill that half forgotten promise. You remain yourself.

You're not beginning a new era. That's way too much pressure. You've just making some time for what you want. Five minutes here or there go a long way. You're still going to be you, the same old you, but you have a little more control over what you make time for then you thought you did.

Questions for Aries for May 2026:
What does your daily routine actually built like—not just how it feels?
What do you tell yourself that you will make time for someday?
Where do you see the time for "someday" in your daily routine?
