You know that stereotype from the movies and TV about elderly dudes in the morning? That they wake up to sit with that morning's newspaper which they read over a cup of strong coffee? Reading the morning news isn't the intellectual property of men from a certain era or of a certain age. Gemini Moon does it.
As soon as they wake up, Gemini Moon tries to find more information about what's happened since they went to bed, whose minds might have changed in those five to eight hours, and what they must have missed since they did the thing that they hate doing but which they have to do nightly—sleep.
Maybe, these days, Gemini Moon doesn't read a whole newsprint newspaper. Maybe they go on their phones, checking their RSS feed if they have one set up or just their messages across five different platforms. Maybe they scroll on social media for a bit. The impulse is the same.
Gemini Moon wakes up and checks to see what the hell has happened to make the world look different from how it did yesterday. This Moon sign walks around with a feeling in their gut that their information is somehow incomplete, that there's always more to know, and that if they can just know more then they'll somehow finally find their bearings. Because the world looks different today than it did yesterday, right? They're not making that up? It feels unfamiliar to you too?
Of course, Gemini Moon is the most surreal Moon sign.
As Gemini Moon discovers more information, they balance completely opposite viewpoints against what they knew and believed yesterday. Their minds change on a dime. No, the twelve step plan to go back to school that they'd scaffolded out for themselves the night before must be discarded right away. This isn't the time for that. Gemini Moon, who just had the epiphany which led them to hunger for the intellectual vitality that they've always been denied, learns that they'd much rather get married, hitchhike around, get a job, or do anything else except what they'd planned out for themselves.
By breakfast, Gemini Moon is saturated with what ifs and what thens. These Moon signs, being quite sensitive to caffeine, skip the morning cup and go straight out the door.
Outside, Gemini Moon mostly goes on detours. They meant to get to work on time but they just remembered that they really ought to use the extra twenty minutes that they have to visit the library where they'll return their book. At the library, they just must check out a new book to replace the one they've just returned. The library selection dazzles them until they find that they're already forty minutes late.
Or, Gemini Moon is heading to see you, their friend. Did you expect them to be on time? They just had to get off the bus two stops too early because they happened to see someone playing the guitar on the street. Oh, that person sang so beautifully and what is the point of living if you don't stop to listen to pretty people making sorrowful tunes every now and then?
Or, Gemini Moon is running an errand. As they go on their errand, they run into someone who they used to know. They chat it up, of course, because Gemini Moon loves rediscovering people who they could have truly known if life had taken them on a different path. By the time they've finished with the conversation, Gemini Moon realizes that they never quite remembered the name or what they left the house to do.
If Gemini Moon has to go somewhere where they find themselves having to integrate into a group, you'll find this unusually witty and charming Moon placement to actually fumble a lot. Somehow, whenever Gemini Moon tries to join a group where they sense some real social stakes, they always seem to put their foot in their mouth and say the exact wrong thing at the worst time.
Ideally, people won't judge them for it because they are obviously well intentioned. But then it happens again and again. Somehow, Gemini Moon finds that they have a knack for this shit, that they have developed an instinct for knowing exactly what people don't want to confront and for bringing that right out in the open when everybody is least expectant.
Time slips by for a Gemini Moon because these people don't watch the clock. They feel that an hour can feel like eternity one moment but like five minutes if you're bored. A Gemini Moon is never truly bored. They can entertain themselves.
By the time Gemini Moon makes it home at the end of their day, they have a sneaking suspicion that there was something that they forgot to do. Oh, that's right! Eating. Quickly, Gemini Moon grabs a bagel or a sandwich from the local corner shop where the owner not only knows their order but their last three relationships even though they haven't exchanged names.
And then, Gemini Moon will eat as they walk, put their sandwich down as soon as they arrive home, and promptly forget about it until they wonder why the hell they feel so famished around midnight. By then, Gemini Moon has read the first page of three different novels, gone on a Wikipedia wormhole, and started to sketch out a new life plan that they really mean to commit to this time.
Sometimes, a Gemini Moon doesn't need a book, a computer, or even a talking partner to feel like they are doing research. Sometimes, a Gemini Moon gets home and just starts to walk in circles around their bedroom.
As they walk, they think and that thinking seems to produce plenty of new thoughts. Around and around, Gemini Moon goes thinking their thoughts. They look at the clock. Three hours has passed and they're dizzy enough to question their whole lives for the thirtieth time.
If you ask a Gemini Moon what they did all day, they'll stare at you like you're the angel of consequences come down to Earth with their jaw all slack and their eyes blank. What is one supposed to do with that type of existential question? Are people supposed to run around doing things with their time? Gemini Moon isn't sure what they've been doing and neither do they care. They know that they've thought a million different thoughts which should feel at least somewhat productive. Shouldn't it?
Regardless of whatever time Gemini Moon thinks they should go to sleep, they'll glance up and realize that the time has passed with a lurch. Then, they cram in a quick shower (during which they enjoy their shower thoughts) and dive into bed half happy that they're so tired from all the pacing that they just did because, otherwise, their mind might just keep them entertained all night.
