Virgo Aquarius Relationships

Sept. 19, 2025, 11:52 a.m.

Virgo and Aquarius have little to say to one another. When it works, it really just works. When it doesn’t, both parties are more than happy to call it off without too much mess. This is a case where the two signs just happen to appear to be very, very similar to one another for reasons that are not really technical.

Both Virgos and Aquariuses can be incredibly distant one moment and then the best friend who you have ever met the next. Both are the intellectual type, the kind who thinks more than they talk. Both love to observe the situation and other people intensely. They’re the smart kids of the zodiac, the eccentric types who don’t appear to be quite there all the time.

Both of them can take what they dish. Virgo can be critical sometimes but Aquarius can take it. In fact, Aquarius appreciates it. Their own inner critic is usually a lot louder and more exacting than anyone they know so direct criticism makes Aquarius feel grounded. Less in their head.

But Virgo and Aquarius are actually very different on the inside, despite appearing to look like the same kind of people on the outside.

Virgo is Mercurial. Mutable earth. If Virgo were a Hunter X Hunter character, then Virgo would be a transmuter. Transmuters like to change their minds and they have the ability to change the situation that they are in whenever they speak their minds. That’s why many Virgos are messy despite their reputation. They have all of these loose ends, different projects, and they’re reluctant to wrap up any one of their goals.

Aquarius is Saturnian. Fixed air. Aquariuses actually don’t change their minds very often. When they do, they have to change their entire worldview and perspective. Aquariuses are not messy when it comes to their pursuits and goals (even though their social lives can get messy when they don’t care enough to attend to the situation). Aquarius is the type of person who will give themselves a deadline. They will trim away unnecessary pursuits just to simplify their lives and minds.

This is where the main conflict between the two signs come in. There is conflict here because Virgo is mutable earth and Aquarius is fixed air. The two signs do not share either elemental compatibility or the same modality. That means that they do not witness each other in the zodiac.

The main conflict between a Virgo and an Aquarius is that Virgo is more communicative. If they are quiet in a group conversation, that’s because they are listening and observing. Conversations transform situations and that’s where Virgo thrives. Aquarius is less communicative. Aquarius is the kind of person who forgets to communicate because something else was on their minds. Their minds are fixed. When Aquarius is quiet, it’s because they are spacing out thinking about what they’re thinking about regardless of what other people are saying. Aquariuses are born with ears that simply trim away the noise.

So, in the main conflict between Virgo and Aquarius, Virgo notices things. Aquariuses often don’t. Aquariuses love Virgos because they think that Virgos are just like them and pretty cool people. They do not notice when they space out or stop attending to a friendship because, to Aquarius, relationships don’t need consistent contact to function.

Friends might set up a Virgo with an Aquarius, thinking that they’re just so similar that they must be super compatible. Virgo and Aquarius are both aloof, both curious, both smart as hell. They don’t know that Virgo has certain expectations and that Aquarius, quite simply, does not.

But a lot of the time, that constant spacing out thing that Aquarius does doesn’t really matter. Virgos get obsessed with people but they can also keep themselves busy. A lot of Virgo Aquarius relationships just work even though they keep busy with their own lives. Down below, I will create my own astrological speculation about why Virgo and Aquarius relationships work so well.

My reasoning actually has to do with the light of the Sun. The reason why Virgo is the zodiac sign that depresses both benefics (Venus and Jupiter) is because Virgo is the sign that comes right after Leo. Leo is the Sun’s home. Virgos love to complicate everything that is obvious because Virgo is the sign that literally breaks down the light that the Sun provides. That’s part of why Virgos are so smart, because they are very skilled at using doubt.

Aquarius is the sign that opposes Leo. It is the depth of winter, the time of Saturn and of melancholy. Aquarius, too, is skilled at doubt. They are just as skeptical, just as picky, as Virgos. They have just as many ways of saying no. They declare refusal just as loudly.

Another way of looking at it: Virgo season is that small dose of sadness you get when the summer ends. Aquarius season is the long sadness of deep winter. The two signs have much to discuss.

Just because two people are very similar does not mean that they fall head to heels in love. I don’t think that either Virgo or Aquarius are the type to fall suddenly and impulsively. But that works better for them.

Aquarius is the type to spend long hours with someone else, naturally becoming friends, and then realizing that they have already fallen in love for quite some time years too late. That’s how Aquarius prefers things. Virgo, on the other hand, loves to do banal things with their lover. They love to do domestic duties, love to run errands, and love to share their ordinary life with someone else. When Virgo and Aquarius fall for each other, it’s not quick or dramatic. It’s subtle. It’s habitual. They realize that they have loved each other for a long while slowly.

And, sometimes, that doesn’t happen. No worries. Virgo and Aquarius still chat it up when they do and if they do. They just get each other for some reason despite having such different styles, personalities, and even lifestyle habits. Virgo gets Aquarius’s subversive ways. Aquarius understands why Virgo is so contrarian.

They might be acquaintances who fall into happy chatter for ages and ages when they meet up once a year. They might be lifelong friends who can’t stop talking whenever they meet. They might be lovers who learn each other before they confess their feelings. Regardless of relationship type, Virgo and Aquarius get each other. They just get it about each other. And, sometimes, friction about Aquarius’s fixed mindset and about Virgo’s playful changeability. But, mostly, they get along really well.
