One of the great lies that is often told about Tauruses is that they just want to eat food and sleep. Taurus does like good food (doesn’t everyone?) but to imagine Taurus as a simple carnality would be a mistake. Taurus is the sign of depth, of hidden layers, and of learning through one’s experiential history.
Aquarius, too, is the sign of depth but of a different sort. You might think that air has no layers. Think again. Air has several layers. Our atmosphere has at least five different layers that all work to trap moisture, heat, electricity, and other particles. Aquarius is just as layered as Taurus but explores the depth of what is most apparent.
Taurus is interested in examining the history that our world is built on to explain where we are and how we got here. Aquarius is interested in systems, in how they function, and in using those systems to predict the future. Taurus is curious about the everyday choices that we make about what we value. Aquarius is thinking about what is no longer necessary and can return back to dust. Taurus wants to know who can be trusted while Aquarius wants to know what can be predicted.
Surprisingly, Taurus and Aquarius get along very well. You might have heard that old fiction about how zodiac signs which are squared to one another don’t get along. You might have also heard that older fiction about how Venus and Saturn disrupt one another, about how Venus ruled signs and Saturn ruled ones stress each other out.
Taurus and Aquarius aren’t supposed to get along from an astrological point of view. So why are they so alike? Why are they both so protective of their own peace and love to eat the same things everyday? Why do they both find Shrek and his many layers so relatable?
Taurus and Aquarius are the two fixed signs who, when they come together, tend to make the other person feel most like themselves.
With Aquarius, Taurus can freely explore their obsessions without interruption. Aquarius is a bad listener when it comes to casual conversation but becomes a great listener when you tell them about the things that you are absolutely obsessed about. Aquariuses don’t have a long attention span for superficiality. They don’t always want to talk about their interests either, not if you’re not also engaged. However, they can listen to you talk all day as long as you’re talking about what you’re interested in because they happen to think that people become the most fascinating versions of themselves when they talk about the things that drive their obsessions. And Aquarius loves to observe people when they do interesting things.
Boy, does Taurus do some interesting things. Taurus does what feels most natural to them and anyone who observes the doctrine of being oneself usually turns out to be a pretty eccentric individual.
With Taurus, Aquarius feels safe. Aquarius is a very goofy person if you’re paying attention. If you’re not paying attention, then you’ll make the mistake of thinking that Aquarius is an eternal pessimist. Not so. Aquarius is simply trying their best to describe reality as best as they can comprehend it. The way that a Taurus describes reality impresses Aquarius. Taurus doesn’t force optimism by believing in things very hard the way Jupiterians do. Taurus looks for the beauty in life, for the blessing of living just as you are and even in the monstrous and the grief. Aquarius is very often attracted to Tauruses because this ability to comprehend the full reality of what is happening with you while continuing to look for the beautiful makes Aquarius feel safe. More connected maybe and less alone. You need to feel safety before you feel attraction.
So, Aquarius is attracted to Taurus—for the way they describe beauty convincingly, for the way they never look away from what is real, for the way they see the same things as Aquarius does and validates those perceptions but never falls into doom and gloom. Mostly, they feel attracted to Taurus because Taurus’s steadfast grip on reality makes Aquarius feel safe.
Both people are fixers if you know what I mean. If the oven breaks, then both people will try their best to figure out what’s happening and use tools to fix it. They don’t leave problems for other people to solve for them. They try their best using what they’ve got. Relationships between a Taurus and an Aquarius tend to be long term. Both people are the type to try and understand the other one and to figure out how to solve problems when they come up.
And sometimes, Taurus and Aquarius people break up with each other not out of incompatibility but because of the reasons why people usually break up: moving, changes in life direction, a change in ethics. All relationships are shorter than your lifespan.
The point where both Taurus and Aquarius seek to explore relationship rupture tend to be the same for both signs. Both of them start to explore relationship rupture when they feel that they have become too comfortable.
Wait a minute. Isn’t Taurus supposed to be comfort seeking and Aquarius comfort rebuking? No, both signs are fixed. They are both prone to repetitive behaviors. Both of them fall very easily into comfortable patterns and they both become wild out of the blue when they want to suddenly change their ways.
The point at which just comfortable enough becomes too comfortable is different between Taurus and Aquarius. Aquarius tends to feel uncomfortable with predictability in a relationship faster than Taurus does. Taurus is an accumulator of experiences. Comfort is just the first level of trust. When they feel comfortable with you, they will begin to challenge and deepen your relationship slowly.
Aquarius’s mind, on the other hand, is built like a montage. Aquarius seeks to understand more by seeing more. Aquarius is unbothered by fragmented experiences because they possess the skill of putting the pieces together in a theoretical system of one’s own making in their minds intuitively. They do not feel the need to accumulate experiences consecutively.
So, from a Taurus’s perspective, Aquarius appears to come and go. They seem to suddenly change. What happened? Did they get bored? The relationship has not deepened to the point to which Taurus feels satisfied yet. They have not explored all of you and they feel that you have left important parts of them unseen. From an Aquarius’s perspective, Taurus will remain in their life and in their imagination (the most important part of the body for an Aquarius) forevermore. They want to tell Taurus, the parts of me that remain unseen to you will change. You must wait for that to happen.
Trust is not built by two people staying the same together. Trust is built when you let someone else take their own risks. Funnily enough, Aquarius can teach Taurus a lot about trust. Knowing someone takes time and great patience. You have to stay with them past the point of comfort before you really know how they tick. Also funnily enough, Taurus can teach Aquarius a great deal about observation.
Not all squared signs are enemies. Taurus and Aquarius happen to be fantastic together whether that be as friends or as lovers.
