The Leo Coworker

Jan. 16, 2026, 5:58 p.m.

The first person who you meet when you start a new job is usually Leo. “Hello, hello,” Leo congratulates you when you reach the pinnacle of your career which is of course working side by side with yours truly. “Come settle right on in. I’ve already set up your workstation for you and made you a little package bag as a gift.”

You see, Leo is welcoming you to their workplace. Make no mistake. When a Leo is present, that workplace falls under the domain of their territory.

You’ll notice that your Leo coworker says hello to almost every single person at work regardless of department. The Leo coworker extends a high five to the stern looking, older woman who looks like she prefers to keep to herself and, just as they do it, that lady’s face breaks out in a huge grin. The Leo coworker is quick to ask about your cat. Is she out of the hospital? How is she doing with her furball issue?

How on earth does this one person seem to remember and also greet every single person in their vicinity on a daily basis?

Leo doesn’t just remember you. They are also the first to congratulate you when you do something good. You just scored a huge grant for an underfunded project. Leo roars, claps, and cheers just as loud as if they were the one to make the accomplishment happen. “You’re just a fantastic person,” they gush after buying you a candy bar. “I feel like you have such a great heart.”

Who doesn’t love to work with a Leo? You just feel good about yourself when you do. That’s what the Leo coworker excels at—making people around them feel good about being there.

At meetings, Leo is often the funny guy. They crack jokes when the mood gets too serious and invite you to play a game with rubber bands because why not? The Leo coworker usually defends anyone getting criticized by bringing up their strengths. They usually think of all kinds of ways for the team to have fun, even when they’re working hard, because they know that playful people work harder and smarter. If you are lucky enough to work with a Leo, then you are truly as lucky as they expect you to feel. The Leo coworker almost seems like endless source of joy.

Not only is the Leo coworker funny and welcoming, they’re also usually running their own department. The Leo coworker might be the tech guy who runs everything digital on their own. They might be the sole librarian at a high school. Or, they might be the only one running the paper department at your store. Whatever it is that Leo specializes in is theirs alone. They will run it. Don’t ask questions. Also, back off.

How on earth does someone have this much energy? To say hello to everyone, to act as the moodmaker, and to also dictate a whole section of the workplace itself? To finish their work so successfully that they earn award after award while also making everyone who works with them also feel good about being there?

Of course, until now, we have been talking about the Leo coworker during the summer.

During the summer months, Leo is inconquerable. Leo has endless energy during the summer. A sunny Leo never gives up. A sunny Leo is a Leo who has seen the light of what is possible and will stop at nothing to get there, a Leo who thinks that you’re the best person in the world no matter what you do. A sunny Leo sees only the good that is possible.

Make no mistake. A Leo does not work during the winter. Don’t expect them to.

When winter hits, you might find that your Leo coworker has become almost unrecognizable. Where did that happy, smiley, funny, and lucky personality go?

The sunny Leo has been replaced with the winter Leo. During the winter, Leo can only try to carry on. They hate the cold. The days get dark way too soon and no one wants to come out to play anymore. They had to walk all the way to work in the snow and someone happened to cut them on the cheek with their umbrella. What a jerk! Can people not watch where they are walking?

The Leo coworker is an absolute fucking joy in the summer. It’s their birthday! They went to the beach! The world is beautiful! The Leo coworker is very sad during the winter. They will enter a period of almost comatose hibernation.

Many Leos simply hide during the winter months, growing colder and more despondent as the weeks go by. You will find that your Leo coworker becomes more grumpy, that their fun loving humor starts to develop an edge of sarcasm, and that they simply do nothing at all. You might not even see them because they have opted to stay home whenever possible. They will turn their camera off for Zoom calls and forget about tasks that they usually have no trouble getting done. Some Leos, not all, become little dictators during the winter. Most just become reclusive.

If the Leo coworker must work during the winter, then they will force work to come to a standstill. They will polish the same piece of wood over and over again. They will obsess over a project until you want to scream. If you want to get along with your Leo coworker, then it’s best to follow my advice. Do not try and make them do things when the weather is cold.

Just wait for summer. As soon as spring hits, Leo suddenly wants to go on a long hike just to soak up the sun. They are perfectly capable of finishing out their year’s tasks during the sunny months. A Leo during the summer has the energy of two people. So just let them be during the winter.
