In astrology, there are two planets which will retrograde and go direct around the Sun. Those two planets are Mercury and Venus. All fall so far, we've been seeing both Mercury and Venus move retrograde, disappearing as they go past the Sun.

Before Venus disappeared in October, it were setting after the Sun in their evening star phase. We will see Mercury disappear at the start of November and then reappear later on. As both planets return to visibility and as they both move direct in November, they are working as morning stars.

A planet in its morning star phase wears a different face than a planet in its evening star phase. As evening stars, Mercury and Venus are responsible for what we might call retrospection or after thought. Mercury in its evening star phase likes to review and reflect. Venus likes to receive and discern, working to build trust and consent by elucidating what makes us feel safe in relationships. The name that we give to evening star Venus is pleasure.

As a morning star, Mercury is called foresight. Morning star Venus, too, works by anticipation. When Venus is in its morning star phase, it still works to describe the choices around us but, instead of seeking the choices that we have already made, it tries to anticipate the ones that we will make. Morning star Venus is the planet of ethics and justice—those theories that we construct to imagine trust in the future.

The sign where morning star Venus emerged from in late October and the sign where it stations direct on November 15th is Libra. In Libra, Venus is at home.

A domicile planet always inherits a set of responsibilities. Usually, these responsibilities are to the younger generation. A planet at home is a giver or a provider and Venus, the planet of choices, made responsible for the task of making more choices possible for those who are younger than us when it appears in Libra.

That's the point of justice—to make more choices possible. That's also the function of resourcefulness.

In November, Mars will also push a conjunction into a Jupiter that has already been drained by the south node of the Moon. Jupiter is the planet of big ideas, of grand narratives, and of power. This time of Jupiter being eliminated by the south node is a time of doubting things that feel too big to handle in scale. If we have a habit of suffering from grandiosity, then that south node sucks that hubris bone dry. Now, Mars comes around to cut our ideas about what is Great or Grand down to size.

I usually pay attention to conjunctions between Mars and Jupiter because Mars, as the nocturnal malefic, feuds with the diurnal benefic. I think that Mars and Jupiter conjunctions can produce a lot of energy, a lot rebellion with a good dose of sarcasm. This Mars and Jupiter conjunction occurs as the Sun leaves Mars's sign and enters Jupiter's.

What's helpful to keep in mind is that both planets which are getting a lot of action in November, both Venus and Mars, are nocturnal ones. They both work in service of the Moon and the Moon is the planet of safety and belonging. Yes, we cut down big ideas about power down to size but only out of loyalty to what makes everybody safe. Yes, we use our resourcefulness to demand justice, to create more choices for young people, but we do it because we want to keep young people safe.
